Barbara Grote, 76

Barbara was born May 6, 1948, in Woodlawn, Arkansas, the eighth of twelve children, to the late Lester Grider and Maggie Spakes Grider.

In 1965, Barbara married her first husband, the late Jimmy West and raised their two sons – Jeffrey Shane West and Anthony Brent West. Barbara remarried in 1975 and had son Austin Clay Grote in 1976. 

She worked as an emergency room nurse in hospitals throughout California, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Missouri. Her calm demeanor and strong work ethic was an asset in high stress situations. Later in her career, her empathy made her a patient favorite in the Chaffee Nursing Home, from which she retired in 2016.

Barbara had a green thumb, a love of county living, and a total devotion to her Christian beliefs. Her friends often became her family and her family was the center of her life.

Barbara passed away peacefully at home on June 10, surrounded by her loved ones. After bravely battling health problems for many years, she has now found eternal peace in Heaven with her Lord and Savior. Her unwavering faith and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are three sons- Jeffrey West (Molly), Fort Worth, Texas, Clay Grote, Fayetteville, Ark., Kevin Capps (Maricel), Dallas, Texas; sister- Joan Perry, Warren, Ark.; nine grandchildren- Cloey Grote, Dakota West (Christina), Cheyenne Lawson (Craig), Hanna Herring (Alex), Michael Abney (Jessica), Austin Capps, Chandler West, Fern West, and June West; and Great-grandson- Kai Lawson. She was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Brent West, and a grandson, Mason West; seven brothers- RA Grider, Grady Grider, Jackie Grider, Sonny Grider, James L. Grider,  John Grider, and Kenneth Grider; and three sisters- Kathy Clemons, June Ruth Saint, and Peggy Grider.
