The Warren Branch Library welcomed community members Wednesday, Oct. 21, for an open house hosted by the Friends of the Library, giving visitors an opportunity to enjoy refreshments, participate in door prize drawings and celebrate the library’s place in the Bradley County community.
The open house was held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and drew a strong turnout, according to Librarian Julie Hamilton. The event provided an opportunity for residents to visit the library, connect with others and learn more about the activities and special projects supported by the Friends of the Library.
Hamilton said the turnout was great, making the event a successful gathering for the library and its supporters. Refreshments were served throughout the open house, and door prizes added to the festivities.
A special highlight of the event was the presentation of a crocheted wall tapestry commissioned by Friends of the Library member Madeline Pasha and created by local artist Rylee Bradley.
The unique piece of artwork incorporates several recognizable symbols of Bradley County, including tomatoes, pine trees, tractors and books. Together, the images reflect the area’s agricultural roots, natural resources and appreciation for reading and education.
The tapestry serves as a colorful tribute to the community, combining local identity with the library’s mission of bringing people and ideas together. Its handmade design also highlights the creativity and talent found within the area.
Pasha’s decision to commission the artwork and present it to the library adds a personal touch to the open house, providing visitors with an opportunity to appreciate a piece created specifically to celebrate Bradley County. Bradley’s crocheted design offers a distinctive way to represent the community and its connection to the library.
The Friends of the Library play an important role in helping create opportunities for residents to gather and enjoy special events throughout the year. Through activities such as the open house and seasonal celebrations, the organization helps make the library a welcoming destination for people of all ages.
The Warren Branch Library will continue that tradition with its next scheduled Friends of the Library event, Christmas-themed Candy Cane Lane, set for Dec. 21.
The holiday celebration will feature Craig O’Neill, Mr. and Mrs. Claus, the Grinch and elves, bringing a variety of familiar holiday characters to the library for a festive community gathering.
With Christmas-themed entertainment and appearances by beloved seasonal figures, Candy Cane Lane promises to offer residents another opportunity to enjoy the holiday spirit while visiting the library.
Following the successful October open house, the upcoming December event will continue the Friends of the Library’s efforts to bring the community together through activities that celebrate the seasons, encourage participation and showcase the library as an important part of life in Warren and Bradley County.
