The Bradley County Chamber of Commerce Board met Monday, Jan. 12, for its regular monthly meeting with several members present. The meeting was called to order by Ana Angeles, followed by approval of the December meeting minutes. Treasurer Jane Harris presented the financial report, noting the organization ended the year with funds remaining. However, she said transfers have already been necessary due to January being a heavy month for membership dues. The board approved the financial report.
The nominating committee presented recommendations for the appointment of four new board members and three officers, which were approved.
During discussion of special events, board members reported the December Market on Main was successful, featuring 15 vendors and coinciding with the city’s Christmas parade. Board member Estephany Roman also reported the recent Pop-Up event at Jack’s Nutrition was successful, with four vendors participating. Roman said the goal is to host a Pop-Up event monthly to provide additional exposure for local businesses. The next Pop-Up event is scheduled for Feb. 7 at Sweet and Bloom Florist, located in the former Anna Boo’s Florist building. Roman added the next Market on Main is planned for March, with a date to be announced.
Chamber Director Nancy Arnold said she would like to develop a community events calendar to distribute to local businesses. Roman said a calendar has already been started, and board members discussed ideas.
The annual community-wide Easter egg hunt was also discussed and scheduled for April.
Mark Miller, representing Main Street Arkansas, reported he walked downtown and discussed potential uses for the chamber’s $7,500 Downtown Revitalization grant. Possible projects include new banners and brackets. Miller also presented information on a $50,000 T-Mobile grant opportunity, which could potentially be used for redevelopment of the vacant Bryant’s lot on Main Street. He said the grant favors projects with significant community impact, such as amphitheaters, splash parks or other amenities that address unmet needs. The application deadline is March 31.
The fundraising committee shared ideas for potential Halloween and fall fundraisers. Members noted hot cocoa sales during the December Market on Main were successful, with plans to repeat the fundraiser in the future.
Arnold also expressed interest in reviving the chamber banquet held in past years, with further discussion to take place at a later date.
In new business, community member Shanda Belin introduced herself as a potential new business owner and asked about chamber services. Arnold said the chamber’s role is to support local businesses and help them grow.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 9 at noon.
